To Our Graduating Class of 2006 from the Superintendent:

Graduation from high school represents a significant milestone in life. It is the culmination of 13-plus years of formal schooling to impart the skills, knowledge, and attitudes students have absorbed over these formative years.

Internet Safety

The Internet can be a great place to learn, grow and discover.  It can also be a dangerous place for a child and requires parent's vigilant attention to its use.  We have collected some resources that may help you in your ability to monitor your child appropriately.

Connect-ED

We very excited to introduce the Connect-ED® service, our new school-to-parent communication system that will allow us to send important messages to you by telephone. The Connect-ED service will help us provide a safer learning environment, enhance emergency preparedness and improve student attendance.

From Our Superintendent:
Dear Parents and Community Members,

When we share that our goal is to have every student graduate college ready, what does this mean? By college ready, we mean that students will graduate with a strong foundation in reading, writing, and mathematics and the knowledge and skills needed to be prepared for college or other postsecondary training.

We are proud to have our Superintendent, Don Phillips recognized for his efforts on behalf of our school district.  He is seen here (center) on the cover of District Administration magazine.  The article talks about how seven districts have joined together to collaborate, share best practices and most of all, improve the education they offer their students.

PUSD's New Website

In the world of online communication it is important to change web pages periodically to maintain interest and encourage frequent visits. We are trying to give our users a lot of valuable information on this new homepage.  We created new pages especially for our Parents, Students, and Staff.  We also have easy navigation available on every page.

Our goal was to make accessible a lot of material about PUSD without having to click multiple times to find that information.

We hope that you find PUSD’s new homepage and accompanying pages user friendly.

The federal government has begun implementing No Child Left Behind (NCLB) by holding states accountable for developing plans and reporting progress toward meeting the requirements of NCLB.  The overall goal of the No Child Left Behind Act is to have all students – 100 percent – achieving at grade level by 2014.

Looking Toward the Future - College

Preparing students to be successful in college and in the business world begins with preschool and extends throughout one’s lifetime. The links in this section access websites that give not only college information, but tips for parents of elementary students as well. Learning about all the options available for students today can help in planning for the future. Beginning to plan early can make all the difference.

College preparatory coursework, known as a-g requirements, are prerequisites for admission to colleges and universities including the University of California and California State University systems. Having more students meet the rigorous a-g requirements and be successful in college is a major goal for Poway Unified. Students need to acquire the critical skills needed to do college work during high school through taking advantage of college prep coursework.
