·Consider possible college majors and career goals.  NOTE:  Certain college majors stress taking more high school preparation in certain subjects areas.

·Take the following Subject Requirements (no grades lower than "C").

Beginning 2003

English (college preparatory) - 4 years

Math - 3 years: Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2

*U.S. History and Social Science - 2 Years

*Science - 2 years: Biology, Chemistry, Physics

Foreign Language - 2 years in same language

Visual and Performing Arts- 1 year

·    College Entrance Examinations.  Take the SAT I or ACT by December of the senior year  (or by November if applying to Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo); applications available at Guidance Office counter.  Request that scores be sent to campuses to which you are applying.  The basic cost is SAT I: $23; ACT: $21.

·    College Applications.  Between November 1 and November 30 of your senior year, get a CSU application (from Guidance Office or Career Center), complete the application, and mail it to the campus (or campuses) of your choice.  NOTE:  The Long Beach, San Diego and San Luis Obispo campuses are approaching capacity in a number of enrollment categories are likely to close to applications after the first month of the filing period. Check the information about impacted majors (too many applications to be accommodated) in the CSU application.  If you wish to be considered in impacted majors at two or more campuses, you must file an application to each.  When you mail the application, be sure to get a Proof of Mailing at the Post Office to prove you mailed the application by the deadline.  College application fee:  $55.

·    Housing.  At Bakersfield, California Maritime Academy, Dominguez Hills, Fresno, Humboldt, Los Angeles, and Sonoma, information about housing is provided automatically upon receipt of your application for admission.  At San Luis Obispo, housing information will be forwarded with your notice of admission.  At all others campuses, write to the Director of housing to obtain information about available housing on or off campus.  

·    Transcripts.  The campus to which you are applying will provide information        about when to submit your official school transcript.  Then fill out a request at the Guidance counter. 

UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

·    Take the following "a-g" subject requirements (no grades below "C" are accepted).  NOTE:   

  1. History/Social Science……….2 years Two years of history/social science to include:  

One year of U.S. History or one-half year of U.S. history and one-half year of civics or American government; and one year of world history, cultures, and geography.

  1. English……….4 years

Four years of college preparatory English that include frequent and regular writing, and reading of classic and modern literature.

  1. Mathematics (3 years required, 4 years recommended) ……….3 years

Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2

  1. Laboratory Science  (2 years required, 3 recommended) ……….2 years

Two years of laboratory science including fundamental knowledge in at least two of the following areas:  biology, chemistry and physics.

  1. Language Other than English (2 years required, 3 recommended) …...2 years

At least two years of the same language.  

  1. Visual and Performing Arts (VPA)……..1 year
  2. College Preparatory Electives……….1 year

A minimum of two years in addition to the above chosen from the following areas:  visual and performing arts, history, social science, English, advanced mathematics, laboratory science, and foreign language (a third year in the language used for the "e" requirement or two years of another language).

·    Take the S.A.T. I or A.C.T. (college entrance examinations) by November of senior year. Students are recommended to take this test in May of junior year.  Applications are available at Guidance or Career Center; SAT is given three times a year at Monache, October, November, December and May; basic cost is:  SAT I $23, ACT:  $21.  Request that scores be sent to the campuses where you are applying.

·    Take three S.A.T. II Tests by December of senior year.  Applications also available at    Guidance and Career Center; tests given in October, November, December and May at Monache.  Tests must include writing, Mathematics (Level I or IC IIC), and one test chosen from English Literature, foreign languages, science, or social studies.  Cost is $33 or more.

·   Send the U.C. Application (available at Guidance & Career Center) between November 1 and November 30 of your senior year.  It is also possible to apply online (www.ucop.edu/pathways ).  You can apply to as many of the U.C. campuses as you wish on one application; however, you must include the $40 application fee for each campus to which you are applying.  Fee waivers are available for students with financial need for up to three campuses.  Mail your completed application with fees in the envelope provided and make sure it is postmarked by November 30 of your senior year.  Obtain a Certificate of Mailing from the Post Office to prove you mailed the application by the deadline.

·    Housing.  All campuses guarantee housing to freshmen that meet all application deadlines and campus-specific housing requirements.  At some campuses students have to submit a housing application before they know whether or not they have been admitted to a university.

·    Transcripts.  If you are admitted, you must arrange to have an official, final high school transcript (showing your date of graduation) sent to the campus where you plan to enroll.  Unless a campus requests it, do not send a sixth or seventh semester transcript.

·    Scholarships.  To apply for scholarships, complete Section VI of the application.  Each campus sets minimum academic and supporting documentation requirements for scholarships.  The deadline for postmark of supporting documentation depends upon the particular scholarship and the university.  If you have questions, call the Scholarship or Financial Aid Office of the school to which you are applying.

·    Notification and Acceptance of Admission.  If you are a fall-term applicant, each campus you applied to during the filing period will notify you whether you have been admitted beginning March 1, and no later than March 31.  Each campus that accepts you for admission will send you a Statement of Intent to Register form.  On this form you are to indicate whether or not you accept the offer of admission; you may accept admission to one campus only.  The Statement of Intent to Register must be returned by May 1 and must be accompanied by a $100 deposit (non-refundable).
