Art With Heart Show Features Student Work
PUSD’s Art With Heart returns to the
Poway Center for Performing Arts after a year’s absence due to budget cuts.
The exhibit will remain at The Poway Center for the Performing Arts during the
month of May.
This year, the show, which consistently
astounds viewers, has SONY and PUSD Partners in Education as major sponsors. BAE
Systems is also a contributor. Coordinated by Gary Snidecor, Rancho Bernardo
High School art teacher, the K-12 student juried exhibition will be held from
May 2 to May 31.

On
Wednesday, May 4, 2005, students from many Poway Unified schools created “Pastels on
the Plaza” from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. This year’s theme was “Master Works” with
each team asked to recreate a work of art by a famous artist. The all-day festival is
a renaissance of art dating back to the traditions of the 16th century. During this
time in history, vagabond street painters (madonnari) traveled from town to town,
turning sidewalks and public squares into vibrant works of “chalk” art.

The Art With Heart 2005 opening reception
was held on May 4 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. There was a film show and music on
opening night. The reception also featured a live auction and fundraising
raffle from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. to support Art With Heart 2006, with an
entertaining and masterful auctioneer well-known to many PUSD families,
educator Eric Lehew. |
| The juried
art exhibition will remain in the Poway Center for Performing Arts during the
month of May. Selected art work from the exhibition will be framed and placed
in school district offices for the 2005-2006 school year. |
