TRANSITIONAL KINDERGARTEN [TK]
Sal Embry, Transitional Kindergarten Coordinator, email@example.com
Dear Parent or Guardian,
We are looking forward to welcoming your child into Kindergarten or Transitional Kindergarten in Poway Unified School District for the upcoming 2014-15 school year. As your student begins in our District, it is important to share information regarding Poway’s Kindergarten/Transitional Kindergarten programs.
According to California Education Code 48000, if your child has his or her fifth birthday on or before September 1, 2014, he/she may enroll in Kindergarten. If your child has his/her fifth birthday between September 2 and December 2, 2014, he/she will be enrolled in Transitional Kindergarten. Transitional Kindergarten is the first of a two-year kindergarten program that uses a modified kindergarten curriculum that is age and developmentally appropriate.
Kindergarten classes in PUSD meet for a full day, while TK classes meet for a half-day. Each of our elementary sites will determine arrival and dismissal times for both programs, and host a fee-based Extended Student Services (ESS) program for before and after school for care. Please contact your child’s school if you have questions.
The following chart is helpful to determine enrollment in Kindergarten or Transitional Kindergarten.
|Kindergarten||5th birthday Dec. 3, 2013 to Sept. 1, 2014|
|Transitional Kindergarten (TK)||5th birthday Sept. 2, 2014 to Dec. 2, 2014|
|Kindergarten OR Transitional Kindergarten (space available, first-come/first-served)||5th birthday June 1, 2014 to Sept. 1, 2014|
We are pleased to present a parent information night about the PUSD Transitional Kindergarten program at 6:00 p.m. on March 6, 2014 at Painted Rock Elementary School. Kindergarten / TK enrollment occurs the second week of May at our elementary school sites. Contact school for specific hours and days for registration or look for more information to come in April on our District website at www.powayusd.com/kindergarten, or on your school’s website in the spring.
Should you have any questions or need clarification, please contact your school office.
