PINNACLEONE/BARNHART
RECEIVE CONTRACT FOR PROGRAM & CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT
FROM POWAY UNIFIED
SAN DIEGO - The PinnacleOne/Barnhart joint venture
team was awarded a program, project and construction
management contract from the Poway Unified School District.
The joint venture team is made up of PinnacleOne and
Douglas E. Barnhart, Inc.
The team will oversee the planning and execution of
a $251 million program to repair, renovate and expand
24 of the district’s schools. $198 million of
funding for the projects is made possible by the November
2002 passage of Proposition U by Poway Unified School
District voters.
According to the school district, facilities originally
built for 500 children currently have as many as 800
children attending. The oldest school building in the
school district was built in 1949. Many of the school
district's buildings were constructed in the mid ‘70s
and are now nearly 30 years old. Much of the original
wiring, plumbing, mechanical systems, and structures
remain in place. The program, as managed by PinnacleOne/Barnhart,
will replace aging portable classrooms, upgrade inadequate
plumbing and electrical systems, install more energy
efficient mechanical systems, bring school sites into
compliance with current safety and access codes, and
build new permanent classrooms to relieve current overcrowding.
NTD Architects has been selected as the architect for
the first five school projects and the district plans
to start construction of the first four projects in
the summer of 2004.
PinnacleOne/Barnhart is currently managing a similar
program for the Oceanside Unified School District, which
includes $125 million bond funding to renovate and repair
existing school facilities.
Representing the joint venture are Jerry King, Mark
Claussen, Layne Arthur and Latrell Cronister. Doug Mann
and Mark Miller are representing the district, along
with Superintendent Don Phillips, Deputy Superintendent
John Collins and a Citizens’ Oversight Committee. |
