REQUESTS FOR LEAVE FOR SCHOOL GRADUATIONS

As May and June are graduation months, we anticipate an increase in the number of requests for the use of leave to attend graduation ceremonies. Employees may access different kinds of leave to attend the graduation ceremony of family members. Many will ask to be released for a few hours. These leaves can be granted by the principal/supervisor using Personal Reasons Leave and covered internally without hiring a substitute. Others may request leave for one or more days. In that case, the leave provisions below are listed in the order that they are to be used. That is, the leave listed first must be used and only if the employee does not have access to that leave will they be allowed to use the other leaves listed. Please note there is a difference between K-12 versus other graduations.

These guidelines will assist you in responding to most requests. If you have any questions, or if you are asked questions not covered by these guidelines, please feel free to call any Personnel Support Services manager.
