The Standardized Testing and Reporting Program (STAR) is the
centerpiece of California’s accountability system.
The STAR is comprised of two types of tests, each with a unique purpose. The
California Standards Tests measure student mastery of the California Academic
Standards. They are typically untimed tests that focus of a year’s study in a particular subject
area.
