Dear Seniors and Parents,
This year we are planning to recognize over 590 Westview seniors during our graduation ceremony. Both our staff and students are working hard to organize an event that recognizes the importance of this academic accomplishment. Below you will find a list of expectations we hold for all seniors participating in our graduation ceremony. We believe that these guidelines will help promote an atmosphere of celebration, respect, and honor in an event of which we all can be proud.
Please know that participation in the graduation ceremony is entirely voluntary, therefore participants are required to conform to these rules:
- Required dress for women: Dress, pantsuit, or skirt and blouse appropriate for the occasion; dress shoes.
- Required dress for men: Dress shirt and tie; dress slacks; dark dress shoes.
- Graduating seniors may not carry cell phones, cameras, flowers, beach balls, or articles of any kind into the ceremony.
- No adornments are allowed on the graduation gown or cap (i.e. leis, scarves, etc.)
- Evidence indicating possession, consumption, or use of any intoxicating agents or the possession or use of any type of explosives will result in immediate removal from the graduation ceremonies,
- Pranks, vandalism, or lingering on campus outside of school hours are a violation of school rules. Entering campus for pranks is trespassing; the damage done is vandalism. Any participants in such acts will be suspended from school and required to pay restitution for damages. Anyone involved in such an incident will not be allowed to participate in senior activities nor in the graduation ceremony.
To the class of 2013, a simple thank you is not enough. Westview will truly miss the leadership, school spirit, creativity, compassion, and ambition that our graduates brought to the campus each and every day. You have navigated your high school years in a manner that will leave us remembering the class of 2013 for years to come. Through continued achievements in academics, athletics, visual and performing arts, business, and NJROTC, the class of 2013 has continued to raise the bar and let the entire state of California know what it means to be part of the Westview community.
It is my hope that the class of 2013 finishes their time at Westview on a strong note, and that we have 100% participation in the graduation ceremony. Whether in class or at the multiple celebratory activities, we hold the expectation that all of our students act in a respectful, responsible manner. It is truly heartbreaking to meet with students and parents who will not be able to participate in their graduation ceremony due to failing a class, or having a lapse in judgment over the last few weeks of school.
Please help us to ensure that the final days at Westview for the class of 2013 are a meaningful and positive experience for everyone in our community.
Thank you,
Todd Cassen
