A message from WILLOW GROVE ELEMENTARY

Hello Willow Grove Grizzlies!

I hope you all remembered to move your clocks ahead an hour this weekend - a sure sign of spring! Another is rattlesnakes! Please remind your children to be extra alert as they play and walk. If they see a snake, they should leave it alone and tell the nearest adult.

If you use the drop off and pick up lanes in our parking lot, please be sure to leave the space behind the handicapped parking spots clear so that our families who use them have easy access. Thank you to so many of you who already leave the space open. Please note that you may not park along Via Azul during school hours in front of the large playground. SDPD may give you a ticket, and the lane of traffic needs to move with the drop off and pick up zone. We appreciate your attention to both requests.

Progress reports will be coming home with your children on Friday, March 19th. Please contact your child's teacher if you have any questions about progress reports when you receive them.

Are you ready for the Grizzly Street Scene? Next Saturday, March 20th, from 5 - 9 PM, the Willow Grove Educational Foundation will transform our campus into a benefit concert venue with southern rock, street-style food, silent and live auctions, and family fun! Tacos, Hot-Dog-On-A-Stick, churros, shave ice, drinks and coffee will be available for purchase that evening, although pre-orders for meals are still gladly accepted. The Foundation is also looking for additional volunteers. If you can help for an hour, please email Kirsten Black at kirstenblack68@aol.com . All proceeds from the event benefit Willow Grove and help to enrich every student's education.

Thank you to parents who have shown interest in helping to jump start our Variety Show this spring. The shows will be May 20 and 21 as is posted on our PTA calendar. Practice dates and times will be available in a few weeks and will be sent home along with information on how to enter. Keep your eyes and ears out the week before Spring Break. We are still looking for a few more parent volunteers to help this event continue to be a success. If you are interested, email Michelle Atkins at atkinsmichelle@yahoo.com .

Thank you to parents that have picked up materials to help raise our Grizzly voices with the decision makers at the state level that are making choices that will directly impact our students. This information is still available on the PTA website and in the front office of school under the bulletin board. Show support for our amazing teachers and help defend the quality of education that our students deserve. If you would like materials sent to you, email VP of Legislation, Diane DeBerry, at dianed3@cox.net and she will send them along.

Many parents have also shown interest in serving our Grizzlies next year n the PTA Executive team! We are excited about continuing our traditions into 2010-11 for great programming! Join us for coffee on Wednesday morning, March 17th, after drop off near the kindergarten playground to ask questions and learn more about the roles we are looking for help with. Contact Jennifer Perry at jcperry@san.rr.com or Kelli Melby at kellimelby@mac.com for more information.

Have a grrrrrreat Grizzly evening!

We invite students to come to school in their pajamas and enjoy a day of activities about the joys of reading with their classes throughout the day. many students may recall predicting how many pages our Grizzlies will read during Drop Everything and Read time! Come to school ready with your guess. And who knows which of our favorite book characters will be visiting that day! Thank you to our volunteers who our bringing literature alive!
