The first quarter ended on October 23, and when your child brings home her/his grades, please take the time to assess goals and grades. PUSD and TPMS have a focus and vision of college readiness. Data shows us that success in grades, habits of mind, and positive connections to learning are developed in middle school.

If a student does not develop those strengths at Twin Peaks, success in a high school setting is greatly diminished! Our goals for students include no zeros on homework or projects and every grade must be a ‘C’ or better. Attaining these goals at TPMS will develop a mind set that will need to continue in high school to put your child on the road to successfully meeting the minimum requirements to enter the University of California or California State University.

For consideration for acceptance at a UC or CSU, the minimum requirements are to take a specific set of courses and earn no grade lower than a ‘C.’ Setting that basic standard at Twin Peaks Middle School is a positive step in having that very important college bound attitude.

As you assess individual grades, be sure to allow your child to quantify in the classes where s/he is doing well and explain what academic structures for learning are in place. How does she study? When does he get his homework done? How does she take notes? How does he plan longer projects? In classes where the grades are not quite so good, see if you can transfer those shared successful strategies into other classes to gain more success.

We continue to have a homework completion every lunch period and after school tutorials Monday through Thursday for students who want to improve grades. Teachers have their own individual tutorials before or after school, also. Your support of your student participating in these programs to further positive academic success is important. The skills s/he learns about asking questions, proof reading, and checking work are very important.

Thank you for all that you do each day in support of your child and the school!
