What if my student needs medication at school?
According to California State law, prescription and non-prescription medications are permitted to be taken at school only with a written statement from the physician and a written statement from the parent or guardian. Please complete the form Authorization for Medication Administration. This information is required for all medications including “over-the-counter” Tylenol, ibuprofen, cold/allergy medicines, etc. All medications must be labeled with the student’s name and above information, in the original Rx or OTC container.
When can my student return to school after being ill?

What if my student forgot something?
If your student forgot an item or lunch, please drop it off in the main office.
How do I inform the school when my student is absent?
Please call the Absence Hotline at 858.679.2603
What if my student is tardy?
Please have him or her come to the office for a late slip which should be given to the teacher.
What are OCIS Contracts?
Should there be a planned absence of five days or more, please contact the office as soon as possible to set up a homework contract for the student. A contract should also be used for extended illnesses. A minimum of one week is required to set up an OCIS Contract.
How early can I drop my student off on campus?
Supervision on the playground does not begin until 7:20 each morning. For your child’s safety,
please do not drop him or her off at school before that time. If students must on occasion arrive earlier than 7:20,
they must sit at the tables by the ESS building until the playground is supervised.
How late can my student remain on campus after school?
It is important that students are picked up before 2:20 pm, and by 12:40 on Tuesday, as there is no supervision after-school. When it is not possible for you to pick up your student before this time, please note that ESS (Extended School Services) is available for a charge, from 6:30 am – 6:00 pm.
What if I want to talk to my student's teacher?
Teachers can be reached via voice or email. The staff directory includes both phone extensions and email addresses.
What if I want to request homework for my student?
Please contact the classroom teacher via email or phone. The staff directory can be found here.
Can my student ride his/her bike to school?
Students in grades 3 through 5 may ride a bike to school. Children must wear a helmet, provide a lock for the bike, and follow safety rules and laws. A permission form must be completed and on file with the office for students who wish to ride their bikes to school. Bikes must be walked while on campus. No rollerblades, razors, scooters, or skateboards are allowed on campus.
Where are the Lost and Found items kept on campus?
Lost and found is kept at the front of the school on the racks by the auditorium. All items not claimed by
the first Friday of each month will be donated to various shelters, etc. Donations for the 2008 school year will be made on 3/7, 4/4, 5/2 and 6/6, 2008.
ESS also has a lost and found area as well.
What is GATE and where can I find information about it?
Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) involves instruction for
students whose cognitive needs may require a modified
classroom program to accommodate their learning differences
and ensure their achievement. Teachers and/or parents may
make requests, in grades 2-7.
If you believe that your child may require GATE services, there
are three opportunities for your child to be evaluated. You will find
general information about GATE services and GATE test
information from the GATE link on the PUSD Website.
Forms are available through the website. If you prefer to make
your request for GATE testing by using a non-electronic parent
questionnaire, please complete one in the school office.
