Principal’s Greetings:

Welcome to Meadowbrook Middle School! It is wonderful to see all the new faces and renew friendships with those of you who are returning!  At Meadowbrook, our goal is Every Students Learning—Whatever It Takes!  With that in mind, I am very excited about the 2008-2009 school year and look forward to meeting and working with our Meadowbrook families.

Our daily schedule will remain the same as last year with school starting at 7:40 and dismissing at 2:25.  All students will have six classes and each class will be fifty-seven minutes long. Every Tuesday is a late start day for students (8:55am -2:25pm).  This is an opportunity for teachers to have professional collaboration time to share teaching strategies and effective practices.

If you have driven by the school, you must have noticed that we are under major reconstruction.  The crews have been working feverishly since the day after school was out on June 13th.  The progress is amazing!  We are hopeful that many of the rooms will be completed by August 19th.  As with any project, though, there may be delays.  I will keep you informed and appreciate in advance your understanding and flexibility if things don’t quite get done and we have to improvise!

New this year is our Language Academy. The Academy is a three year program in Spanish language instruction.  Students will be learning to listen, speak, read and write in Spanish.  Upon successful completion of three years of instruction, students will be prepared to take third-year Spanish classes at any of the Poway Unified School District high schools.  In the spring, incoming 6th graders were given the chance to sign up for the Academy and the response was overwhelming!  To meet the demand, we will be offering three sections, two after school and one during the school day.  The classes will be taught by Mrs. Jolk and Mrs. Duhaime, who are both very experienced in teaching Spanish and very excited about the class.

Communication with parents continues to be a high priority and we make every effort to keep you up to date about what is happening and when.  Be sure to listen to the weekend callouts, attend Back to School Night and PTSA meetings, read the newsletter and check the website for all the latest information!  And, as always, do not hesitate to contact me either by phone (858-748-0802) or email (cbrose@powayusd.com) should you have any questions, comments or concerns.  Here’s to a great year!

Meadowbrook Principal

“COFFEE with the PRINCIPAL”

Parents, Grandparents, Aunts and Uncles, you’re all welcome to join us for an informal get together with our Principal, Cathy Brose. She is available to answer your questions and concerns about middle school. Come with questions or come just to meet other parents and listen in!

This PTSA sponsored event is scheduled Tuesday mornings from 9:00-10:00 in the library. Please double check the MBMS web-site to confirm each meeting.

We look forward to seeing you there!

Campus Traffic:

Pomerado Road is a main thoroughfare traveled by many people in the community, including the families bringing their children to school at Meadowbrook. As a result, on a typical morning parents may experience a ten to fifteen minute delay trying to turn on to Meadowbrook Lane due to traffic congestion. In addition, with construction going on, there will be additional traffic.  To ensure the safety of our students and their families, we are strongly suggesting that you plan to leave home and arrive before 7:30. Arriving by this time will have many benefits, including giving your child time to stop at his/her locker, say hi to friends, and, most importantly, get to his/her class on time, stress free and ready to learn.  Please, leave 5 minutes earlier and drive safely.

Help Us Inform You!

PLEASE HELP!!!!  Be sure to keep your phone numbers and email addresses updated.  We use a callout system and email to keep you apprised of school events, activities and other important information.  In addition, this year the newsletter, MBMS Matters, will be going paperless!  To receive it, we must have your accurate email!  Don’t miss out!  Update now!!!!

Medication Reminder:

If you son or daughter needs to take medication at school, including Tylenol or Advil, you MUST have a completed Medical Authorization Form on file in the Health Office.

If you find that you need a medication authorization form you are now able to access that form from your home computer.  Go to the PUSD website powayusd.com click on departments then click on health services and finally click on medications.  Scroll down about half the page and you will see Authorization for Medication Administration.  Click on this form and print it out and either send it in with your child or drop off at health office.
