Dear Parents:

It is my pleasure to welcome you to the Extended Student Services (ESS) Program webpage.  The ESS staff and I hope that this website will provide you with important information about our program which is provided at each of the elementary schools within the Poway Unified School District.

As our Mission Statement says:

"ESS is a bridge between home and school
where children are encouraged to learn, create,
and explore within their school, community and world."

To fulfill our mission, each ESS site has a highly qualified supervisor, lead assistant, and instructional assistants that make up a 1:15 adult-to-child ratio.  All staff have met clearly defined requirements and are carefully selected to ensure your child and family experiences a positive, safe, and supportive environment.

A variety of activities are included in the daily schedule.  Each site plans the daily schedule to complement the school schedule, providing children with a healthy snack after school, a quiet time for homework, and the opportunity to play with friends and develop respectful relationships.  Projects and games are included in the options for children throughout the week and vacation periods.  Our goal is to balance the planned activities to support each child's development and interests which include:

Exercise for the Mind & Body

Nurturing for the Whole Child

Reading and Relationship Skills  Enhancement

Investigation of Individual Interests

Character Counts, Critical Thinking & Creative Arts Experiences

Having Fun Times at ESS

The ESS Program utilizes the school's positive discipline programs with an emphasis on Character Counts to provide consistency throughout the school and extended school-day hours.

As the director of ESS, I am proud to invite new families to visit the ESS program at your child's school.  I know that you will find the welcome mat out and a knowledgeable, friendly staff able to answer your questions.  Due to an exceptional "kid-friendly" staff, children often refer to ESS as the "home away from home."  Welcome to our new families and my sincere appreciation to our current families for your continued support.  Your children are a delight to serve!

Sincerely,

Johneen Gregg
