Skills Needed for Computer Courses

Windows or operating system basic skills include launching programs, mouse and keyboard usage, saving files, opening files and:

  • Word processing basic skills include:
    Creating a new document, text entry and editing, font and paragraph formatting (size, style, spacing and alignment).
  • File management basic skills include:
    Understanding how files are stored on your computer and how to move and copy files.
  • Dreamweaver basic skills include:
    Setting up a site in Dreamweaver, opening files and folders, creating HTML documents, adding images and links, and using Dreamweaver's site management feature.
  • Access basic skills include:
    Creating and populating tables, creating basic forms, creating queries, and creating and running basic reports.
  • Excel basic skills include:
    Worksheet creation, entering text and numbers, creating formulas and simple functions, font and cell formatting, and editing cell entries.
  • Excel intermediate skills include:
    Ability to work with large worksheets, using 3-D references, and creating more advanced functions such as lookup and financial.
  • Photoshop basic photo editing skills include:
    Bringing picture files into the program, cropping, resizing, using various selection techniques, and working with layers.
  • A strong accounting background refers to:
    strong understanding of debits and credits, knowledge of adjusting entries, and knowledge of the accounting cycle.
  • Internet basic skills include:
    Navigation to websites, using the navigation buttons (back,refresh,etc.), and conducting a basic internet search using a site such as Google.
