CEF Purchase Highlights:

Here are just some of the exciting ways our Educational Foundation (CEF) supports the students and staff at Creekside:

• Purchased 13 new docuCams for Creekside, that are currently up and running in the classrooms, at a cost of $30,000. This brings our docuCam total at Creekside to 19. More docuCams are scheduled to be purchased in summer 2008.
• Covers the $12,000 a year salary, to have a PE teacher on staff.
• Covers the cost to have a technology resource specialist at the school, who manages the computer room and works with the children and staff here at Creekside.
• Purchased all of the school disaster equipment, including the school safety shed.
• Sponsors the Creekside Network News (CNN) program at school.
• Continues to supplement the teachers needs and supplies, by purchasing additional items that are requested and approved by them, throughout the school year...i.e.: calculators, printers, pencil sharpeners, etc. .
• Provides printer and ink jet cartridges for the school, throughout the school year.
• Provides $600 a year to the 5th Grade Promotion Budget, to help cover the cost of a 5th grade student art project and the 5th grade promotion video.
• Provides Creekside with $10,000 per year, to be used to help with copy room costs and specific school and teacher needs. Out of this money, each teacher is given an extra $100 in their budgets, to cover additional supplies, at the beginning of the school year.
• CEF and PTA purchased and installed the new safety gate and panic bar, located between the office and B village, at a cost of $6000.

CEF has been steadily purchasing DocuCams for our Creekside Classrooms and the teachers just love them.

The commencement of the 2007/2008 school year began with a fury of excitement. Not only were students greeted with brightly decorated classrooms, smiling teachers, and freshly sharpened pencils, but many students were excited to learn that they would have the opportunity to experience the wonders of a DocuCam. The addition of DocuCams not only put smiles on the students’ faces, but also made the teachers jump with joy. Myself being one such teacher, I could hardly wait to have the opportunity to truly experience all of the benefits that the DocuCam brings to our learning environment. I have since been able to use the DocuCam to present materials in a variety of ways, allowing the students to share their own work, and even enhance student presentations as the students use the DocuCam to practice their public speaking skills. The DocuCam truly allows educators and learners the opportunity to enhance the learning environment. I am sure that I can speak for all teachers and students here at Creekside when I send out a huge thank you to the Creekside Educational Foundation for funding such wonderful additions to our technology plan.

Well, I don't know where to begin...how about, "I have died and gone to heaven!"? It is an amazing moment when you watch your students' eyes open wide in wonder as you display a picture book on the DocuCam for all to see. They can finally see all of the fine detail up close AT THE SAME TIME! I use it in Math to go over assignments and to explain examples. My students nearly fell out of there seats when I zoomed into one problem making it almost the size of the screen. What a wonderful opportunity for those students who struggle with their sight and those you have difficulty focusing. I think the DocuCam is the best piece of technology a teacher can use. It has so many possibilities in all content areas, from a Science experiment to watching a movie. It brings learning to life in all it's colorful glory! I think I would be lost without it at this point.
