General:
General first aid may be given in the classroom at the
teacher’s discretion. Each classroom is provided with a first aid kit
which includes bandages, antiseptic soap, etc. to handle minor
scratches, cuts, or bruises.
If a student has a fever of 101 or 100 with other
symptoms they will be sent home. Injured students will be attended to and returned to class or sent home based on the severity of the injury. An accident report is filled for serious injuries or occurrences. Confidential List: Each teacher will each receive a Confidential List for their students that have health concerns at the beginning of each semester. Health concerns include allergies, diabetes, asthma, seizure disorders, etc. This list is highly confidential and MUST be maintained in a secure location. This list will also be collected at the end of the school year. Anaphylaxis: Anaphylaxis is a medical emergency. Students with severe allergic reactions may have antihistamines and/or an EPIPEN on site. Each teacher will receive information from the Health Technician regarding these students along with their confidential list. A parent or trained district employee MUST attend all field trips with these students. Diabetic Students: Students with diabetes have a Diabetes Management Plan in the health office. Students generally test their blood sugar before lunch and PE before doing strenuous activity. They may test in the health office or in the classroom. Each teacher will receive information from the Health Technician regarding these students along with their Confidential List. A parent or trained district employee MUST attend all field trips with these students. Medication: Students requiring medication during the school day MUST have a Medication Authorization Form completed by both the physician and the parent in order to have their medication administered at school. These forms are maintained in the Health Office. Most students will have their medication stored and administered in the Health Office. With written physician and parent authorization, students may carry their medication with them (ie: inhalers, ibuprofen, etc). Accident Reports: District policy requires that an accident reports be completed by the Health Technician for students that are injured at school. Please report all accidents promptly. Each school year the following mandated screenings are done. · Vision and Hearing – 8th grade · Scoliosis – 7th grade girls / 8th grade boys If you have a student you feel needs to be screened (regardless of their grade) notify the Health Technician. ***There are several agencies that provide vision care and glasses free of charge for those students in need. Immunizations: California School Immunization Law requires that children be up-to- date on their immunizations to attend school. The Health Technician is responsible for monitoring compliance of immunization records for all students. Workers Compensation: Workers Compensation claims are filled out by the Supervisor and/or Health Technician for any employee or volunteer that reports any job-related injury. Injuries MUST be reported as soon as possible. Forms are available in the health office. |
