B.H.M.S. SPECIAL EDUCATION |
|
|
BHMS has a comprehensive Special Education program which provides academic
support for students with special needs. |
|
|
Resource Specialist Program: The RSP
provides support to those students who are able to academically
access general education classes with some assistance provided
by special education teachers. Students may receive assistance
in the primary areas of language arts and math, along with help
in organizational skills in our study skills class. |
|
|
Special Day Class-Non-severely
Handicapped: In the SDC-NSH classrooms, students receive
small group instruction in math, language arts, social studies,
and science. Specialized reading and writing programs are used
to enhance student learning. The program also addresses
students’ needs in the areas of language, social skills, and
independence. |
|
|
Special Day Class-Critical Skills: In the SDC-CS classroom, students
receive small group instruction in the areas of functional academics, daily
living, vocation, and social skills. Students also access general education
electives, PE, and all grade level or school-wide activities. |
|
|
Direct Instructional Services (DIS):
• Speech and Language: Instruction and remediation in the areas
of articulation, fluency, voice, pragmatics, and/or receptive
and expressive language. Services are provided using
collaborative, push in, and pull out models.
• Adapted Physical Education: APE provides students with the
necessary knowledge and skills to establish and maintain
physical fitness, participate in physical activity, and maintain
personal health.
• Occupational Therapy: OT services that focus on developing
functional skills related to sensory-motor integration,
coordination of movement, and fine motor skills. |
