Principal’s Message     (top)

Welcome to the Bernardo Heights Middle School website!  I hope you will find the website informative and it will help you have a better understanding of our academic and extra-curricular programming.  BHMS has been recognized as a California Distinguished School and is a National Blue Ribbon winner.  Our CHARACTER COUNTS! program helps to set the tone for a school climate which fosters mutual respect and acceptance.

Bernardo Heights Middle School began as a trailer campus of 6th graders in 1988 while the school was located on the Meadowbrook Middle School campus during construction of our Paseo Lucido facility.  Since 1990 our modern and well-maintained campus has shared a central driveway to the neighboring campus of Rancho Bernardo High School.

Our dynamic and talented staff works and plans together to provide students with outstanding standards-based educational experiences and academic growth opportunities in all content areas.  Sixth grade serves as a transition year in which students begin changing teachers, adjust to locker rooms in PE, select electives, go to camp, and learn organizational skills.  Our village format for 7th and 8th graders has students within a village assigned to the same Humanities, Science, and Math teachers so four teachers are working closely with the same group of students.  With our Block Schedule, students attend (3) 98-minute classes each day and our rotating schedule allows teachers and students to optimize learning by not always having a difficult class last period.

The Before and After School Program, offered through Quality Children’s Services, provides a safe haven for students to work on homework in the Library or the computer lab, play in the gym or the Bobcat Center, and participate in athletic or small group activities after school.

From our unique architecture to the exciting learning environment within our classrooms, Bernardo Heights is a vigorous, active educational center filled with the promise of tomorrow.  Our mission statement below is our collective commitment to you and our students that Bernardo Heights will continue to be a place where students reach new heights of excellence.

Thank you for visiting our website.
